I'm interested in news, I'm not interested in opinions
Brian Williams interviewed US President George W. Bush this week, and President Bush made the following comment in the interview, "I'm interested in news, I'm not interested in opinions." His comment is actually pretty insightful and he raises an important point. I have to agree that too many newspapers, magazines and TV programs provide their opinions to readers and viewers instead of provide facts and numbers to readers and viewers so that they are well informed and they can form their opinions.
No matter how you try, your report will be biased in one way or the other. It is pretty typical that US newspapers, magazines and TV programs generally take side with US, and it is also typical that Arab newspapers, magazines and TV programs like Al Jazeera take side with Arab world. However, they all need to try to provide fair and balanced reports in the process. I am afraid that we do not see this happening in today's US (major) newspapers, magazines and TV programs.
It is a little strange for President Bush to say "I'm interested in news, I'm not interested in opinions" since he is the commander in chief and he stands above agencies such as CIA and Pentagon and agencies are supposed to provide him accurate information about all issues related to US.
